Sacrality of the Royal Power in the Middle Ages
 

 

During the international workshop, which was conducted under supervision of Prof. Gerd Althoff, Prof. Wojciech FaÅ‚kowski, and Prof. Andrzej PleszczyÅ„ski, graduate students from University of Warsaw and Université de Poitiers discussed with their tutors about various means of sacralization of political power in the early and high Middle Ages. The workshop took place on 27th of January at the University of Warsaw, and was organized by a team under leadership of PaweÅ‚ Figurski.

The Senses in the Medieval Culture
 

The international conference was organized in cooperation with the National Museum in Warsaw to celebrate the new exhibition of the medieval gallery. During the meeting students from Poland and abroad presented the papers devoted to the sensual dimension of medieval culture. The participants under supervision of Prof. Eva Schlotheuber debated on the role of the senses in the religious and political culture of the Middle Ages. The conference took place in the National Museum in Warsaw on 4th and 5th of April 2014.

Between Mission and Crusade. Religious Confrontations in the Middle Ages

 

The next international workshop gathered graduate students from University of Warsaw under supervision of Prof. Philippe Buc, Prof. Stanisław Rosik, and Prof. Leszek Słupecki. The workshop, which took place on 7th of June 2013 at the University of Warsaw was devoted to the issues of christianization, religious coertion and crusades in the Middle Ages. During the workshop the participants discussed how the medieval authors sacralized in their narratives the military actions. The meeting was organized by a team under leadership of Maksymilian Sas.

Liturgy and Politics in the Ottonian Empire
 

The special session at the 51st International Congress on Medieval Studies organized by Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo is meant to bring to mind the impact of Ottonian culture for European civilization and provide a deep analysis of the intersection of politics and liturgy, which was crucial for the culture at the turn of the first millennium. The session will consisto of the following speakers: Megan Wellton, PaweÅ‚ Figurski, and Henry Parkes.
